Antique Seaboard Air Line Railway Tin Workers Gang Cup - Attic and Barn Treasures

Antique Seaboard Air Line Railway Tin Workers Gang Cup

$ 35.00

Antique tin galvanized type metal straight side drinking cup with a rolled top rim and a folded bottom edge. The raised stamp on the bottom reads S. A. L. RY. which stands for Seaboard Air Line Railway. The method of manufacture and composition of this cup (along with the patina) suggests to us that this cup dates to the 1800's.

Measures 3-1/2" diameter (4-1/2" across including handle) and 2-9/16" tall. Excellent condition and beautiful patina with no rust found. This purchase is from the estate of a well known railway enthusiast and collector.

These cups were used by the railroad gangs and workers for getting a drink from the company supplied water bucket. It wasn't until the late 1900's that laws were enacted requiring an individual cup for each worker.

Please note that any other items shown in the photos other than those described above are props and not a part of your purchase.
