Marvelous wood and metal antique tool box by F. W. Boelter Chicago, USA. The metal manufacturers tag on top says U-need-A along with the name of the maker. Very good antique condition with wear as expected. No tool tray. No key.
The handle was once leather wrapped over fiber and metal. A small piece of the leather remains. The box is wood with metal hinges, tabs, locks and corners. A small section of the interior wood is bowed inward but does not seem to be an issue. (please see photos)
Measures 21" long x 8" deep x 11-3/4" tall (not including handle) and weighs a little over 8 lbs.
F. W. Boelter also made automobile trunks and boxes. It is possible that this piece was intended as a tool chest for a vehicle.
