If your guy likes vintage then he will like this Lufkin Red End Extension Rule. Also known as a zig-zag ruler or carpenter's rule they were created out of the necessity to carry long rulers from location to location - thus the invention of the folding rule or ruler. This type of rule was used until the first retractable tape measures were born in the 1940's.
This particular rule is marked as follows - X46 Lufkin Red End Extension Rule, Made in USA, P.R. App'd.
Fully extended it is 72" long. Folded it is 8" x 2" x 5/8". Brass attachments.
