This is truly a lovely and special keepsake or souvenir. Imagine this dainty mother of pearl purselet dangling from the wrist of a young lady on her honeymoon or perhaps it was given to her by her father for her coming out. We wish this beautiful item could tell it's tale!
Oval matched mother of pearl shells are hinged to open and close with a kiss clasp. Metal edging around all edges. Two loops are attached (one on either side) to accommodate a chain (not included).
A very special gift for her as a part of her collection or to use as a presentation "box" for her jewelry gift.
We suppose that this was originally used for carrying a folded up perfumed hankie or other small toiletry items such as a lipstick or rouge. We have also found reference to these being used as a means of carrying ladies snuff.
Beautiful patina on both the shell and metal edges. The kiss clasp closes tightly and the hinge is intact. No cracks or damage to the shell is seen. There is a slight dent in the outside edge of the metal (shown in photos).
